New Years Eve!!!

Well,,here in Maine we are expecting on heck of a snowstorm..... a Nor'Easter as we call it in the northeast... this should be one whopping storm..I'll show pictures during the white out they are calling for this weekend.

So, today is all about getting ready,, movies, food, popcorn and wood for the fire. I plan on going shopping this morning and picking up a few things. Our plans for the night are simple.. a movie, Sherlock Holmes, and dinner. Hope by 8pm as we are going to the last matinee of the day at 4pm and then to eat.
As I've gotten older, the need for going out has really disappeared. I have no need to stay up and wait for some magical moment at midnight, or to overstuff or overdrink myselft so New Year's Day is impossible to recover from.... especially the guilt of over indulgence.
With that,,, it's a quiet day, a quiet night and I'll see next year in the morning....Happy New Year to all.....Blessings for a great and wonderous new year!

Latest Read

I finished reading The Lovely Bones last night. I cried when I finished it. Few books have had that kind of impact on me. The characters on the pages really captured your heart and you felt like you got to know each one very intimate. I have to say, it's one of the best books I've read in a long time. The relationship the father has with his daughter and the impact of her death to the family and to his relationship with his wife are profound. I dont' know how people get through a loss of a child. I think it has to be one of the most painful, unbearable kinds of losses imaginable. The ending of the book brought on a rush of emotions and tied up all the loose ends unlike some books that leave you hanging. I know that they have made a movie about this book, and I just hope it does it justice. I dont' understand how a screenplay writer can take a book, simple plot, and turn the whole thing upside down so there is no resemblence of the plot at all...how do you change a book?? I hestitate to see the movie because of this and have been dissappointed so many time after reading a book and then seeing the movie that was made. I can only hope that the writer didnt' allow this to happen to such and wonderful story. If you haven't read The Lovely Bones yet, I encourage you to do so... Happy New Year to all...Tracey

A little Christmas in the bedroom......

Well, if you've followed my blog since last year, you know I love Christmas and Christmas trees!! Yes, I have about 4, maybe 5 in my tiny little farmhouse.

This year I decided to add one to my bedroom... a little red tree with white and gold ornaments with a precious victorian head with gold gown on top! A gold table runner envelopes the bottom of the tree to make it a perfect addition to my bedroom... Now,, if only my husband doesn't knock it down.. I'll be all set!!! Put a tree in an unexpected place this year and let me know! Merry Tuesday night to all.... with Christmas love, Tracey

Start of the Christmas Season

Well, I started my decoration process yeserday. I made a wreath of Christmas balls that I saw on another blog that I loved!! Took the idea and made it my own. I haven't taken down any other decorations from my attic yet , but will start that process today.
Today also marks my daughter, Jessica's , 25th birthday. I can't believe it's been 25 years already!!
I love her to pieces and she is a precious sould. I am off to her hockey game today. She is a goalie and has been since she was 10 or so. I love watching her play and the passion she has for the game is unbelievable! That passion, drive and being so self-assured are qualities I wish I had , but admire in her so much.

So Happy Birthday Jess,, and pics to come for the holiday's soon. Tracey

Fun days with Family and Friends

I've been out of the loop for a while.. husband gone and staying pretty busy. Working, exercising and hanging with friends and family.

Last weekend my sister came down from Millinocket and we went shopping and to craft fairs. It was a lot of fun. We always go to a place that has the "Winterberry Craft Fair". It's put on my the Women's Literary Union in Auburn, Maine and it's beautiful. We had scones and tea in a beautiful sitting room , with fine china and surrounded by beauty.

I also went with a friend and her children to a card making night. The night was about making and sending cards to troops overseas. Of course I dug right in since mine is heading there in a few months. This was a remarkable lady who has been doing this since 1968!! Wow.. that's patriotism!!

So you can see I've been busy and with working it's been good to stay this busy. I've been checking on all your blogs and reading, I may not always leave a comment, but count on the fact that I am reading and checking in often. Have a wonderful day all... Friday the 13th! I've already had mine last Friday... that's another story.

A Kayak ride in Maine

Wow,, today was the most beautiful day we have had in a long time. Funny too, it was pouring yesterday and the rain never let up at all. My husband and I took full advantage of the blue sky and warm temperature.

We packed up our kayak's and headed to a close by river for a ride. The views were great, the company excellent and the weather, perfect.

Hubs in the kayak
The beautiful scenery God gave us to look at...He must really love us!

An Autumn wreath

Well, I've had this window a very long time and could never decide what to do with it... so I examined what I had in my living room and decided to move all my pictures, which are all in black frames and hung them over my television and then took this window,, spot painted it black and took a grapevine wreath I had and decorated it with stuff I had around my house. The baby boo pumpkins are from my garden and the tags I bought and one I made.
I think it adds a nice holiday touch to the room and plan on changing the wreath with the seasons. I think I'll add some small shelves on the right side and continue the seasonal theme on the little shelves. I'll have another picture when it comes all together.. but remember, look around your own home and see what you have to make something seasonal.. it's easier than you think!

A College Weekend

This past weekend I was able to go to parent weekend at Thomas College where Hannah is a freshman. What a great weekend to spend with my daughter. Her father was still away with the military so I ventured on my own. After registration time, with coffee and snacks, Hannah and I went back to her dorm room to drop off some of my things and headed back to the lunch area for a Bar-B -Q..well an indoor one as it was raining. We had a great lunch together and talked a lot. After lunch I headed to my bed and breakfast I was staying in to drop off my luggage and freshen up a little.

Soon, heading back to Thomas' with one little surprise. Hannah's father would be joining us..she was unaware. He showed up in uniform and we were both so happy to see him. Went to dinner, then a show at Thomas with a ventriliquist, she was great, and then a little late night Bingo!!! I sat with Hannah and her friends and what fun!! We had brunch the next day at school, there were soccer games, field hockey games and crafts to do.. so much for one weekend. We had a great time together and it felt good to see her in her enviroment. She'll be home this weekend and can't wait to see her again. Funny, I never thought I'd miss her this much. Have a great Tuesday and sorry for the long absent.

A Work Day Surprise!

Well, my husband must have psychic abilities, after my complaining this morning..look what showed up at my work today....

Love the Hubs!!

While Hubs is away....

Wow,, I can't believe my husband has been gone again for over a week and is due home on Sunday. It's been a fast and busy time while he's been away, but I have noticed with him gone a couple of things.
1. My living room carpet is clean. Not nearly as much vacuming.
2. Less dishes in my sink. I only eat breakfast at home.
3. Where is all the dirty, ( I mean dirty) welding clothes to wash?? and towels...hardly any.
4. I can sleep soundly.. ( you know what I mean )
5. My kitchen table is clear from desbris, mail, papers, reciepts, ear plugs...........

I love my husband to pieces and really do miss him, but I never really realize just how messy a man can be around a house. My kids weren't this messy when they were home. Well, he'll be home in about 4 days and it's back to normal. Hope you all have a great day and enjoy this wonderful day!! October tomorrow!!!

Furniture refurbishing....

As many of you know, I've been attending some auctions with my sister up near Bangor, Maine. These are a couple of items I located and bought at the most recent one I went to. They were in rough shape, but a little paint, and creativity and they look great. I painted the wicker chair a bright cherry red and added a new cover to the seat (which isn't shown in the before picture). I love how it came out and will share a spot in my living room. And for some reason, unknown to me, my camera ate the before picture of the little table. But, let me say, it was unpainted and rough. I used some chalkboard paint on the tabletop and painted the rest creamy white. I added some stamping to the drawer and used an old champagne cork at the drawer pull. Not bad,, I wish I had better hand writing. I have been up to some things with many more projects on the way.. Have a good day!

Wow..two posts in the same weekend?? A weighty issue!

Good Morning to all.. I dont' know how many of you have this problem, but it runs in half my family and my sister and I are the ones that inheritied this issue.. we both have a weight issue.

My sister, over at Rural Maine Life, recently opened up about her weight issue. Well, she isn't the only one in the family with one. I have struggled my who life as well. Maybe not to the extent of my sis.. but it's always on my mind.

You see, we have two siblings that are relatively this.. I mean they are thin! One sister is really skinny.. she works at it, but has always been thin.. the bikini flaunting, "See how thin I am" person.

So, I guess I'm writing this to let my sister know she isn't alone.. I'm with her and I want her to just get healthy.. that's my mission right now.. lower the BMI, cholesterol, blood pressure and just get feeling better. So, if you can, visit her blog and let her know your thinking of her and encourage her with your story or support.

I have a selfish reason for doing this. Our mom passed away 7 years ago, and my sister is my best friend and my "other mother", (she is 12 years my senior, you'd never know it) so I want and need her to be around for a long time to be there for me and my children. I love her sooo much and she means the world to me. So help out and encourage her! I'm doing what I can , but it would be great for everyone to show support.. Thank you so much my friends.. I love you all for helping me out!!!

A bedroom/craftroom makeover.. almost done

Well, Hannah has been at college for about 3 weeks now and hubby's getting ready to leave again for 14 days... oh..things can get done while everyone is away. But, with Hannah having had the biggest bedroom in the house for the last 6 years.. time to redo.

So, I split the room in half, gave her the bedroom she'll need when she comes home from school, and the craft roomt that I can have without freezing in my upstairs this winter. I have plans for the upstairs as well, but that's another post.

Here is what is finished so far.. the bedroom side is pretty much finished, just a few more decorative touches and the craft side needs some picking up, organizing and whittling down the amount of stuff I have in there,, pictures of that later.

A little paint, a little imagination and a lot of thought in this room.. hope you enjoy. Have a great weekend!!

"Mother India"

Jim and I went to a great restaurant in Lewiston last night...Mother India. I've never had Indian food or anything even close to it. I've read a lot about this place and love to try new things, so I decided we would get out and discover some new cuisine.
Wow.. I loved it!! The food , the smells, the spices! It was just great. All the cardamon...saffron, curry, nuts,,yum!!!
We had Punjabi Nan.. a coconut stuffed bread with saffron and yummy sweet spices. Biryani,,which had lamb, shrimp, chicken and basmati rice and nuts, raisins... oh..it was sooooo good and for dessert a dish called kulfee.. a pistachio ice cream with more nuts..

I am so happy we discovered this little place in a very unique setting. The food was good, the atmosphere beautiful and the service was excellent. Happy to try new things.. you never know what you might discover!

Can you believe it.. Another Festival!

This one is Greek and it's this weekend in Lewiston. I love this festival. It is so much fun and the food... well the food!!! There is Greek dancing, Greek Food, pastry, a raffle, a white elephant table and a Taverna!!
It's so much fun to learn about another culture and get to enjoy it with people who really know about it and live it every day. They have a church tour also to explain what Greek Orthodox is and a little deeper about their faith. It's a great time to get out and enjoy all the food.. especially the pastry!!
