At 49, I recently achieved something that I never thought would happen. I ran 1 mile. Yes, ran, 1 mile. This may not seem like a lot to some, but to this girl it's quite an accomplishment.
You see, even when I was younger and in boot camp, I don't think I completely ran 1 mile. There may have been those times I ran/walked a mile... and who knows how long it took me... but last Friday was the first time I completely ran 1 mile and in 13.6 minutes.
I am trying very hard to get myself into some kind of shape, (instead of the round shape I"m in)... to take control of my health and improve it each day by eating better and exercising. You may think this is for selfish reasons,, well it's really not.
My mother passed away in 2002 from complications to diabetes (type 2) and I have a sister who is heading down the same road. This is a preventable disease and could be completely reversed by diet and exercise.
With that, for my daughters and husbands sake, instead of getting a diagnosis in 5 years that I have pre-diabetes, I'm taking steps now..steps that should have been taken years ago, to get healthier..1 MILE...may not seem a lot,,,but it's the first step to a healthier ME!

Hey Tracey..I am so proud of you girl friend!!!!!
Running was my life for years, and I loved it!! I would say a slight addition!! Hahaha!!
I was around 50 when I had to stop because of knee problems,operation for torn cartilage and was told that I couldn't do any running, aerobics,bicycling...anything that causes any jolting of the knee..yikes *sigh* : {
ooooop's not trying to discurage you ...I"M JEALOUS!! hahaha!!

I hated walking, but have had to get used to it,and now I like it.

You go girl, ti is good for so many health issues!! ♥

Okay, I'm 43 and I cannot even run a half mile so kudos to you!! That is some accomplishment! I would probably die a third of the way into a mile. I've been so lazy and not exercising but congratulations, Tracey!! xoxo

That is Awesome, Tracey! I am impressed and don't brush it off as not being such a big deal, cause it is! That is great that you are taking control of your health early to avoid the Diabetes. My friend was diagnosed with Diabetes, but she has really dropped the weight and changed her eating habits and will soon be able to end one medication. I also love your pic of the Red Velvet Cake--yummm... it has such a special taste, doesn't it? And I want to say how much I like your clean, fresh, modern blog look. Can't remember how it was before, but changing things out can be fun and encouraging.
