Reviving my blog

Today, I'm thinking about reviving my blog. I miss talking to all of you and sharing my thoughts and ideas about living on a small farm in Maine.
We are at the start of getting our homestead back up and running. After 30 years of my husband being in the military he retired in April and that meant, no more traveling, no more long separation. I am so happy he's finally home for good.
So, we decided to get our small farm back up and running now that we are both home and can commit time to our animals and harvest our produce from our land.
This was a very productive year. I'll start slow and up date as I go along. In June, we got laying hens again. I'm loving it. Custards, hard boiled eggs, homemade mayo, the list goes on and on. How can you not love getting up and heading to the coop for farm fresh eggs? We also bought some meat birds as well and those are sitting in my freezer for winter dinners. I'm still in school and working hard and my husband is working hard as well. I'm also a new grandmother and have the prettiest grandbaby in the world! (No, I'm not prejudice). I'll begin posting pictures tomorrow and hopefully will be able to update most days. Oh, and I have fresh hot pumpkin soup on the stove from our veggie garden!! Yum!

A Typical Thursday

Today was just a typical day for me. I am a full-time student and had my class in Holistic Health today. The class has been pretty good and very informative. I've learned all about alternative health and many different modalities for taking care of ourselves in non-western medicine ways. I am very happy with how this class is going, but I will admit that I'll be glad when this semester is over.
I also typically do my housework and make dinner for my husband before we head out to a night at our church with Life Tree Café. It's a beautiful way to connect to people and build relationships with other church members and those who come to visit. I like that it's available to anyone and you can come with your own ideas and your own thoughts, everyone is welcome. It's a night out for my husband and myself to get to know our church family on a more intimate level and get to meet new people who come to visit and take part in a very informal conversation café.
As you can see nothing exciting, it's still pretty cold here in Maine, but it is comforting to have some continuity in our life and no stress with how our days are planned.

Weight Loss Challenge

Well, this week I start an 8 week weight loss challenge. I think it's just what I need to get myself more accountable for all the exercise and lifestyle changes I've made to see the weight come off. I was in a program at my doctor's office, but I'm not finding it very motivational. I sit in group and just listen to people not willing to make the changes necessary to loss the weight. I mean, you have to exercise. You have to make changes to your diet. You have to be ready to do things differently. So, instead of going to group, I've decided to take on a challenge at my fitness studio. I go for my initial weigh in this morning and I'm probably not going to like what I see. I exercise about 4 times per week, sometimes more, but I'm not seeing the numbers move. So, we'll see if this helps to be in a little friendly competition.
I'm also getting ready to head off to Niagara Falls in a couple of weeks to visit daughter #1. She moved out there in August and I haven't seen her since. I'm flying out in a couple of weeks to visit for a few days. I can't wait! All in all a pretty good start to the week and things are going well. Wish me luck today and I'll have updates often!

Finally, I'm back and better than ever!

Well, it's been a long time since I posted anything. A lot has been going on since my last post. My husband returned from a year long deployment. I started back at college and I'm going to be having a grandchild! Yes, lots going on and I thought it was time to get myself back to writing and tracking things a little better. I've been working out and trying to get my health on track. I've been doing yoga, zumba, and some Focus T25! I am feeling great! I really am enjoying getting healthy and with a new grandchild on the way I need to get in the best shape I can.
I also started painting. I love it. I've done 4 paintings so far and find it very relaxing. I am trying to do more things and different things. Every chance I get I try something new. Last week I went to a new type of Yoga class. Kundalini Yoga. It was very empowering and I found myself experiencing a new sense of well being.
I also turned 53 last week. I don't mind getting older. I am really embracing it! The older I get the more well rounded I feel that I'm getting. ( Not rounder in the physical sense!) I feel that there are more doors open to me and more things to experience. I hope to get back to regular blogging and getting more pictures on line from my life. Better documentation is what I'm striving for! Glad to be back and lots more to come!!
