End of Week One

Well, I have to admit it's been okay not spending unnecessary money. I've only purchased the following..
Gas..30.00 ( I live in a small town and have to commute to work every day)
Lunch to go to my second job..3.96 for a sandwich and a coffee
Mail 2.68 , since I don't have a library in my town I have to pay to mail books back to our State Library
Walmart 20.81 I needed a new Cricut mat for my Cricut machine in order to make my own cards and finish up some scrap booking. Bought a head of lettuce and some celery too.
So, as you can see, I'm trying very hard to stick to my plan. I haven't' shopped at Goodwill (heart breaking right now)... and I plan on continuing my quest to not spend unnecessarily. The up coming week I have a dentist appointment and am working a little bit more. I'm finding that I'm using things in my cupboard that haven't been used in awhile and getting creative on meals. So the end of week one.. Week two ...Bring it On!!!

Update on Fitness

Well, It's been half a week and I'm doing well. No coffee bought at work or even buying that bottle of water. I'm taking my own coffee and water to work and using a great Thermos my husband bought me years ago. I have to admit that I'm doing pretty well so far. I needed some new books, so I wen to Nook by B&N and found some freebies to download on my e-reader and I'm good with that. I do plan on going swimming at our local YWCA soon..so I will be using 3.50 for that purpose. I had been going three times per week, until I started my second job. Now that that is winding down.. it's time to get Physical Fitness in order...(more on that later). So, I'm looking for freebies when I can get them. Trying to get my house in order and going through unneeded things to make my life simpler. The journey is challenging.. but remember.. it's not who leaves this world with the most stuff... it's how you impacted the world with your kindness, laughter, and generosity. Trying to be a good steward of what God has provided!

A Spending Diet...

I've been reading on the web about not spending any unnecessary money for 31 days.. Well, my diet will go from January 22nd till February 21st, as I do have some things coming up and thought this time period would work best for me. So, no extras... No dinner out, no bottles of wine, no stopping by the drug store for something is saw in the flyer.. Just no extras. I'm keeping my diet to gas, food for my home and paying bills. I love to shop at Goodwill on a regular basis, so this might prove to be a little difficult. My reason: To stop over spending on things I don't need!!! And believe me, there is a lot I don't need. My little home is bursting with exercise tapes and equipment that never seem to get used. Craft Items I can't see to use up. Food that goes unused in my pantry and fridge,(thus throwing away unnecessarily).. I think this will be a good way to start the new year off right. So.. day 1, here it goes!!!

An Anniversary

Well, if you've been following my blog for anytime, you know my story about being married. My husband and I have been married for 6 years as of today. But, we were married for 14 years before and divorced for about 5 years in between our years of marriage. Yes, I remarried my husband. So, today, we are not only celebrating our 6 year anniversary, we are celebrating our 25th Anniversary as well. We are taking our daughters to a great French restaurant called, Fuel, and we are celebrating being a family for 25 years.
This may seem strange to people, but we never stopped being a family, even during the divorce. I have a daughter from a previous marriage, and she and my youngest daughter will join us in celebrating all the years we have been together as a family unit. Even though my husband and I weren't together for those 5 years, we still maintained our family as one. The girls were never separated and my husband continued to be a father to my oldest daughter during our time of separation.
I am happy to say, that the past 6 years have been wonderful and I am truly blessed for having a second chance with a man I truly love. He has integrity, loyalty, honestly, a great work ethic and he loves me so unconditionally... I am thankful to the Lord for being the center of our marriage and for giving us this opportunity to celebrate our life together.. So Happy Anniversary to my best friend and to our daughters for always being supportive or our marriage... Truly Blessed!!

Kale Soup...a Winter's Delight

I love making soups in the winter time.. this was one made out of pure imagination. I used what I had on hand and came up with this wonderful, tasty winter soup. Hope you enjoy.. Oh, and that cast iron dutch oven,,,my Christmas present from my daughter,,,my new love of my kitchen!!

First, wash and cut the tough stalks from the Kale

Then, saute onions, garlic and carrots in olive oil..

Next, I added a bag of field bean from my freezer with green beans..

Some turkey kielbasa for some protein in the soup.. cut into bite size pieces. Add some chicken broth and let simmer

The finished product,,,yummy!!!

Use your imagination when you create dinner.. head to your cupboards, freezer and fridge for a chance on making something new and delicious..Good Luck!!

Winter Down Time

As I go through my favorite blogs, I see people redoing their homes, creating many beautiful things, and cooking up a storm. As for me, I'm trying to get through the toughest month of the year in Maine.
It gets dark early, it's cold, and just plain blah!!!
So, in an effort to try to keep going... I'm making a list of things to accomplish this year and things that are coming up this year in my life to look forward to.
So, here is the list of things that are either going to happen this year or I want to accomplish;
1. Las Vegas for my 50th Birthday...May 2012
2. Redo my kitchen.. floor, walls, cabinets...etc,( wish list)
3. Finish painting the rest of my House... (def)
4. Buying a new Car..(def)
5. Trip to Germany/Italy in Sept 2012 (yeah)
6. Work on losing weight (def)
7. Stop casual smoking... for sure!!
8. Work on my crafts more often and get ready for Craft Fairs in December 2012!
9. See another Broadway Show!
10. Be with my family more!!
Well... this is a good start and I'm sure I'll add to it as I go along... but for now.. this is a place to start! Starting is always the first step!

A Busy Season

With Thanksgiving over and Christmas in about 23 days.. this is a busy season. Throw in two jobs that have you out of the house from 8:30 till about 10:30 at nights..it gets even busier!!! I will try to post after the middle of the month, but for the next few weeks I'm very busy working two jobs. I know that the end result will be a great trip to Las Vegas in April with my daughters, so I'm just focusing on that! I try to read and catch up on what everyone else is doing and love reading all your blogs.. you make my life happier!!! I will try and add some pics of my decorated house, because it has been fully decorated since the day after Thanksgiving because I knew I wouldn't have time after that due to my schedule.

A Thankful Heart

I can't believe it's already Thanksgiving!! Where does the time go??? I think it's moving faster now that I'm getting older. But, I didn't want to let the day get away from me with saying how Thankful I am to be able to have such great friends in this Blog World. I love reading each persons post on their blog and love getting comments from all of you!! I truly feel blessed by this experience and am so happy that I can come to my computer each morning and take a glimpse into your world and share in your experiences. I love it!! A Vacation Dilemma

This spring I will be traveling to Las Vega for my 50th birthday. Well, I should be. I'm suppose to go with my two daughters, but no one seems to be saving any money at this point. So, I'm thinking about changing my plans. Not exactly.

With going to Vegas in the springtime, my husband and I are trying to decide where to go next fall. Our original plan is to go to Italy for a 9 day vacation. I'm getting cold feet about it with all the unrest in Europe and their money situation. So I'm trying to decide if I want to stay here in the United States and do something else. Like go to Hawaii,,, Alaska.

.or somewhere in the 48. Big decisions to come up with. I love to travel and love to explore different places. I've always wanted to go to Italy, but like I said, not sure if this is the time to do it. Any suggestions???

Anyone been someplace that they loved and wished everyone could see it?? I'd love your input on this Dilemma.
As for Vegas.. I think even if my daughters can't come up with the money.. my husband and I will go to enjoy my milestone Birthday!

Veteran's Day

November 11, 2011... It's Veteran's Day. A day to honor those who served and continue to serve our country with military duty. This has always been a special day for me. My father and step-father were both Veterans of WW2, Korean War and Vietnam. They both served over 20 years in the military and deserved to be honored. There influence encouraged me to join the military as well. I served in the Coast Guard and loved the time I served. My husband has also continued to serve as well. He is in the Maine Army National Guard and has served for over 27 years and has done a tour in Iraq. Our military sacrifices a lot and the families of them do too. I am proud to have served my country and to support my soldier who continues to serve.

An Empty house,,,again..

Well, my oldest daughter left for Florida today. She will be staying with my sister who is undergoing radiation therapy for breast cancer. I am so pleased that my daughter felt pulled to go and be with my sister during this difficult time. So, that leaves me home with my husband in an empty house for two months. I miss my daughter already. She was always around to play Jeopardy at night, watch Glee on Tuesday's and bake for her. I love my alone time with my husband, but having her around is a blessing.
My youngest daughter is going through a difficult time with her boyfriend. Not going to go into details, but this is a very delicate time in their relationship and all I can do is ask for prayer. I know that God has great things in store for her, and this may not be the young man he has in mind. I ask to give her strength to get her through this time and for her to help see past the present to a future filled with His love.
So today I ask for prayer.... for my daughters and that God direct their lives.

Winter has Come to Maine

It's October 30th and yes, we have snow! It started last night and continues this morning with lots of wind and cold!! How could this be? It's only October and yet it looks and feels like January outside. A freak weather system and the right combination brought this wintery mix to Maine very early.

Winter around the Corner

Well, it's October 27th and yes, we are having snow this morning. Does that mean winter is right around the corner?? In Maine, not sure. The funny thing about the weather here is that it can snow today and the weekend could be warm and sunny. (Well..sunny and not as cold anyway).
Does the change of seasons affect you?? I know that it does for me. In the late fall and winter I love to be home. Getting out of the house can be a chore for me. When the sun goes down.. and it goes down early here, I want to be snuggled in my house in front of my woodstove and just cocoon.
This is bad for me. I need to get out, socialize, exercise and keep my mood elevated. I haven't exercised in about two weeks. I feel terrible!! I have gained back weight that I've worked so hard at losing and just feel BLAH!
I need to push myself and overcome this feeling of not wanting to leave my house and go swim, hike, and take my dog for her walk. How difficult is that???? Pretty difficult right now.
I am going to make the effort to get myself out after work today. Swim today and Book Club tonight. I hope I can continue to really push and remember that it is for my own good.
How do you spend your winters?? How do you motivate yourself when there is no motivation to be found?? I'd love to hear your comments.. As for now. I'm going to catch up on my blog reading, go to work and then swim after that.. we'll see how today goes... one moment at a time!

Sundays....

Sunday is the day of the Lord.. that we know. I love going to church to renewed and revived for the upcoming week. To be filled with the spirit to help me get through whatever comes my way during the next seven days.
But, for me Sundays also mean,
FOOTBALL... Love Football. Coming from Maine I am a New England Patriot fan,

But love all the games on Sunday and even Saturday College Football..

It also means comfort food.. this only can come in the fall and pre-winter of the year. I love chowders, Chili, breads, apple pies, muffins, ETC..... you know that you gotta love all things autumn.

So, this is just a reminder that God provides all things wonderful.. and I don't think he minds me enjoying a day of Football and Food on HIS day.. Thank you Lord for all you Provide~

Okay, so this is where my Halloween Decoration post should have been...but my husband took my camera~!! Why, you ask??? Because he has gone to Northern Maine Moose Hunting... Yeah, Moose hunting.

I guess he wanted to be able to take beautiful pictures of the moose in Northern Maine..No, he wants to take a picture of the Moose they get. Not sure how I feel about this. He has never gone Moose hunting in the past and I think this has been a Bucket List item for him.. So I'm happy about his getting a dream to come true, but I don't think I can really get excited about this one.
So, as soon as he gets back, I'll have my Halloween post and I promise, NO pictures of the Moose... I feel too sad about that.. Have a great Monday everyone!!

I know that I've been trying to stay on top of my blog and making regular posts.. well, September got away from me and that is history. Here it is October 9th and I'm finally back on track! I've been working a couple of jobs and with the holidays up and coming, this hasnt' been a priority for me. Trying to have a schedule has been difficult. I've allowed other things to get in my way and really haven't taken the time for myself or for what I love to do.. which is read other people's blogs, craft in my craft room, cook, bake and read. NO... these past few weeks have been filled with working, sleeping and eating. Yup that's about it. So,, my priorities for this month are to keep up with my blog, read other's blogs, make my Thanksgiving cards, shop for stocking stuffers, bake a little more and read, read, read!
If you are having trouble trying to stay on top of things, I feel your pain. Thanks for sticking with me and I'll be posting pictures of my Halloween Decor very soon..(Tomorrow)... take care all and thank you again to all my loyal followers!!!

Well, this has been a long week and am I glad it's over! I've been training for my new job at the LL Bean call center and haven't gone to bed before midnight all week.. then it's getting up in the morning and heading to my "real" job and doing it all over again.
Well, I am finally going to swim again this morning.Get some exercise and head to work. We are going "LIVE" tonight, which means taking real phone calls. A little nervous, but alas.. I'll do my best. I think I'll need to do a little shopping over the weekend to get some of this nervous energy out and do something nice for me.

Oops!!! My Battery popped out!! Need to buy Energizers next time!!

A Personal Request

If I could get you all to pray for my sister I would appreciate it. She is going in tomorrow for a breast biopsy to check out an area that has changed since her last mammogram. She lives 1500 miles away from me, so it's very hard to have her go though this with no family around. So I ask you all to pray for Diane, as she is very nervous and anxious about this procedure. A Busy Weekend Ahead

This coming weekend is going to be very busy for this girl.. Every year we have a Greek Festival in the city of Lewiston and it's this weekend...

Oh how I love the Greek pastry, the music and Sambuca... It's going to be a good time. But wait...there is also the Litchfield Fair! Yeah, a real old fashion country fair. Why is it everything taste better from a little truck with a deep fryer!

How delicious! Animals, 4-H competitions, Craft exhibits and more. I'm not done yet...I have a wedding to go to as well. One of my best and long time friends is getting marrried on Saturday. She had been my maid of honor when my husband and I got married back in the day. I am so anxious to see her happy and enjoy her special day with her.
So,,, that will wrap up my weekend.. Oh, and I have to work on Sunday.. but I love how busy this time of year can be. I'm looking forward to each of these events and I'll post pictures after the fact on Sunday or Monday.. Everyone enjoy your day and come back for the pics!!

Sunday..Labor Day Weekend...

I'm sure that most people have this weekend off...not me. I work at a hospital and have to work. But I'll tell you that I 'm just happy to have a job and especially the one I have. There are so many people out there struggling to make ends meet and looking for work, that I'm very thankful that I have one. I suppose this Labor Day weekend, it's about being thankful to have work for me, my husband and my two girls. Thankful that I get to get up, go to work and get a paycheck. God has been very good to my family and I try never to forget how fortunate we are that we have what we have.

I did enjoy a day off yesterday with my husband. We cleaned up our yard, watched some college football and enjoyed a fire last night eating some delicious s'mores with our daughter and her boyfriend.
Oh, how lucky we are to enjoy the life that God has provided for us... Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend and please stay Safe!!

I recently saw these bags in an article in a Martha Stewart Food Magazine... I fell in love with them!! I am so tired of buying sandwich bags and throwing them out!! I hate it!!! So these bags were fantastic. I can re-use them and throw them in the dishwasher and have a clean bag for my husbands lunch every day! The large bag fits a big, hearty sandwich.(no more squeezing it in a baggie) and the smaller bag is great for chips, carrot sticks, cookies or anything else that fits my fancy!! I paid 24.73 for the 4 bags and shipping cost as well. I am not a math person, so not sure how many boxes of sandwich bags I'd have to buy to make this work. But the Green Factor is what really sold me.

I also plan on buying myself a great lunch tote too.. one of those stacked metal lunch pails.. love it and can't wait to buy and use it. I love doing what's good for the environment!! I love my Rume Bags!!!

Climbing Mt Kathadin

If your not sure where or what Mt. Kathadin is,

let me tell you.. It's the highest peak in Maine, the end of the Appalachian trail in Millinocket, Maine ...about 3 hours north of my home. My husband and I leave today for a 3 day camping expedition to climb the mountain tomorrow. We leave today to set up camp in Millinocket, climb tomorrow and recover on Wednesday. It should be a great adventure and if, no, WHEN I get to the top, a picture will be taken of me and there will be proof of my determination to get this off my bucket list!!! So, I'll be back on Wednesday with pictures,, Oh, and there is a great thrift store in Millinocket too... going to make a pit stop there before we leave.. (I couldn't go without thrifting????)... have a great day and say a prayer of safety for me!!!

Getting a Seasonal Job

Well, I'll turn 50 this February and am planning a wild trip to Vegas with my two daughters and my sister!!
So, in order to really do it up right, I am taking on a second seasonal job thru the Christmas season. I'll be working at LL Bean in Maine at the call center. I will be also working my regular job at the hospital 20 hours a week. This is going to be a very busy fall and early winter, but I'm sure that the CASH is going to be great when it comes time head to Vegas.
I had to think about this and make sure that I would not be overdoing it. Knowing that there is an end when Christmas arrives is a very doable thing. I'm really happy about this decision and am anxious for my 50th birthday to celebrate like never before!!!

A Weighty Topic

Not sure how many of you out there have a daily fight about weight.. well, I do!!

I've never been a skinny minny and don't plan on being one anytime soon. But I am into getting healthier, and in better shape. I battle the wants and needs of my body everyday. I want a doughnut, I need a whole grain breakfast. I want to sit and watch a ballgame on TV, I need to get out in my garden and pull weeds.
For over 3 months, I've been swimming three times a week at the YWCA and doing other activities. Watching what I eat and making better choices. I've gone to the doctor to have lab results gone over and know what I should be doing to get on a healthier track. But you know what? It's still a constant struggle every day.. I still want what I want and it's not necessarily always good.
I thought it would get easier... it's not. Maybe after 6 months of doing this it will. I've lost 13 pounds so far and feel so much better and look better...

Limerick, Maine

Well, my husband and I are back from a wonderful time in the small town of Limerick, Maine and neighboring town, Newfield. This was a spur of the moment getaway and I am so glad we were able to sneak away for a couple of days. If you have a husband like mine, the only way to get him to relax and really spend time with me is to get him away from the house. As long as we are home,, he can always find something to keep him busy. The garden, the lawn, getting wood ready for winter...etc.... All of which is important to do, but not being able to stop once in a while is the tough part.
So, we took off Wednesday and Thursday for a quick trip the the western part of the state. Here are just some pictures of where we were and what we did...

A small getaway

My husband and I usually go away for a week in the summertime to a home we rent in Boothbay Harbor. This year we didn't make that trip due to a busy summer schedule. So, we've decided to do a couple of smaller getaways in Maine and explore some places we haven't yet explored
In August we are making a trek back to Mt. Katahdin. It's the highest peak in Maine and one end of the Appalachian Trail.
Until that day, we are heading to a small town in Maine near the New Hampshire border called, Limerick. Although Maine is known for it's oceanside towns, this isn't one of them. This is inland and has some wonderful places to visit.
We will be staying at the Jeremiah Mason House B&B. It has a wonderful offering of rooms and breakfast sounds fantastic.

We will also be having tea at the Clipper Merchant Tea House. One of Yankee magazines top picks. The website shows a beautiful array of teas, sandwiches and rooms to eat them in.

There is also a turn of the century village known at Willowbrook Museum.

This is kind of like a smaller version of Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts. Offering a look at turn of the century life with actors portraying real people from that era. Can't wait to take lots of pictures to post and show you that Maine has more than a seaside resort state. See you all on Friday!!

Yarmouth Clam Festival

Yup, in Maine there is a festival totally devoted to the Clam!! My husband and I went yesterday afternoon and had a great time!! As soon as we got there.. Fried Clams were a must! They are so delicious and the first ones of the season for me. After we enjoyed our clams we set off for the craft area. You wouldn't believe it! Every kind of craft imaginable... pottery, soaps, salsa's, jams, aprons, pictures, photography, spices, toys, clothes and the list continues.
I decided on getting some pottery.. a great item, and egg poacher! It literally takes 30 seconds to poach an egg in the microwave in this piece of pottery.. wonderful!!!

I also got a garlic/oil dipping plate, a book at the giant book/yard sale and some spices and some nuts in varying flavors.... It was a productive day all the way around.

We had a piece of pie, enjoyed the hour long parade and walked around a little bit longer. It was a great day with great weather and to say "Let's Celebrate the Clam",,,,its a good thing!

TOPS

"Take Off Pounds Sensibly".. this has been my motivation over the past month or so. I joined my local chapter of TOPS and have seen success!!! I've lost 12 1/2 pounds in 7 weeks and feel so much better. It's a slow process, but one that is being done the right way to keep the pounds off!!
The chapter that I belong to is wonderful.. they are funny, informative and supportive. I've tried for a very long time to get the weight off... I started at 173 and am at 160 1/2 right now!! I can't believe that I'm doing it!! To be with others who struggle with their weight and need help from others is great!! These people know exactly what I'm going through and can offer a much needed "high five" when success happens. If you've never looked into a TOPS chapter, go find one if your struggling with weight. It's very low cost and the slightly competitive feeling helps get you going and stay motivated. Just wanted to share my weight struggles with you and hoping if you have any helps.. pass them along!! would love to hear from you!!!

Well, ,here it is.. my "new" kitchen table.. I love how it turned out and love that my husband took the time to create my vision. He even rounded the corners for me... I have to say.. it's a little big for my tiny home, but I'm saying it's a keeper!!

Since my daughters moved out I had given up my kitchen table. I have a very small kitchen and really didn't use it very much. But the impending return of my two girls has pushed me to decide to obtain a table for my kitchen.
I have looked for about 2 months now and really hate spending money on something I may not even keep in there after they leave next summer..so I had to improvise! See this old door..(not the french door, that's another project. You can see my painters tape on the windows) I plan on using this old door and put it on the legs pictured below..they kinda remind me of a danish look... one is painted one is not.
I plan on combining the two pieces for my kitchen table and so now, I just need to find some chairs... I'll be posting the picture of the finished table soon... the girls move in a week from today!! Have a great day!!!!

Yes, you heard right, a serial crafter. I love to craft!! I am willing to try anything and if I see something someone made I usually make an attempt to try and do the same.
I have scrap booking items, items to make cards, jewelry, material, yarn, ribbon, calligraphy sets, stamps, beads,

candles, soap, altered books,my Cricut, just about any item or craft you can think of, I have it in my craft room waiting to be made or at least attempted. So I decided this past weekend, with the impending arrival of my children back in the nest I really should whittle my crafts down to what I really love to do and do well and sell or donate the rest. This is a hard decision, but I think I spend so much time on collecting the items to do a project, I never really get around to actually doing the project. So my intention is to really find the passion that I love and stick to just a couple of crafts. I hope this opens up some creative juices and really gets me going!!

Children Boomarang....

Well, my children are moving back home. Yup, you got it.. my 26 year old who has been gone since she was 18 and my youngest who has been gone for a year...They both are moving in on August 1st. This is a big decision for my husband and I. We are use to being alone in our home and on only our schedules.
This will be an adjustment for the 4 of us, but we;ll make it with a little patience, respect and some guidelines

Initiate a serious discussion - Early on to ensure that you and your child have the same expectations about the living arrangement. Define why your child has decided to live at home: to start a career and save money, prepare for graduate school or take a break from everything?
Set clear expectations - Talk about your child's obligations regarding expenses and household chores. Discuss whether she or he can have dates over for dinner or even to spend the night. If your child plans to spend the night out, should he/she call home first? By setting and enforcing expectations, parents help their children learn the skills they need to live independently.
Set a time limit - If your ultimate goal for your child is independence, set a limit for how long she or he can live in your house. You can adjust that deadline later if desired. Experts say it's best for everyone to be on the same page in order to avoid the resentment that might arise from vastly disparate assumptions.
Charge Rent - For some parents, the mere mention of charging rent to a family member draws an incredulous reaction: "Are you serious? But I'd do anything for my kids!" But for other parents, charging rent, even a minimal amount, helps prepare the boomerang for living independently and helps parents keep up with home finances.
Keep Promises - If parents and adult children hold to their agreements and continue to respect one another, they won't encounter many problems. Resentment can arise when either parents or children are not doing what they've agreed upon. If things start to unravel, have a family meeting to discuss expectations and boundaries.

I truly believe that by following some instruction and all of us being on the same page.. we'll come through with flying colors.

Yard Sale Finds

I finally had a Friday off and decided to go yard sailing in my neighborhood... what a great day!! I was able to find some great things.
About a month ago, I broke my bread machine.. it jumped right off the counter and crashed to the floor. It was over 20 years ago , but still.. I loved my bread machine. So I was able to find a brand new Kenmore Bread Machine for 12.00.. how great is that. The instructions, and the plug cover were still on the machine. It was definitely the find of the day.

I was also able to find some great frames for 1.00 each. Crochet table runners, books, fabric for finishing my quilt and other fabric for crafts. Patterns to use and make a great summer dress.

I also found a great tray with great structure and loved it.. it needs a little TLC but I'm sure I can make it look brand new. To finish it off was a great little train case to turn into a great jewelry box.

If there is one place I love, it' s my flower gardens... I have 3 that I nurture and keep adding to. I love the colors, texture and scents of the many flowers that I've chosen along the way and have watched grow into nice lush plants and blossom to what they are now.

I've been wanting a sign with my last name and the year my family was started... there are a lot of choices out there, but I decided to use a piece of wood that I had and my cricut to get the job done.. I love how it turned out and I can change it up if I need to...(color-wise)... I'm very happy with the results.

So, for over a week I've been sick. I mean s-i-c-k!!!! Bad!! I never thought I would be this sick in June. But, here it is, June 7th and I've been sick since the first of the month. I feel like something is sitting on my chest and coughing enough so I never get any real sleep.

The Liliac's Have Finally Bloomed

If your a Mainer, you've waited a long time for summer like weather. Well, it's finally here!! My Lilac's have bloomed, my kayak's are out and my garden has been planted.
Two months ago we were in the middle of one of the most horrible snowstorms of the year,, now.. It's absolutely beautiful. Warm temperatures, sunny days, afternoon thunderstorms. Everything that makes summer, summer. In Maine, all you have to do is wait a few moments and the weather can change in a heartbeat. So, I'm going to be enjoying this beautiful, warm weather while it's out there and get in my summertime fun as soon as possible.
Hope it's sunny where ever you are!!!

The Rain Continues

Okay, it's been almost two weeks since the sun was our here in Maine.. what is up with that!! Oh yeah, the grass is green, the foliage is lush, but I don't want to keep living in a rain forest!! My heart goes out to you all in the Northwest.If you have this kind of weather just half as much, you deserve an award for living there.

Two years ago , we had a summer just like this,, rain, rain, and more rain. I hope this will be the end of it, but right now there is very little sunshine in sight. My plants need the sun, my lawn needs to dry out so it can be mowed and I NEED THE SUN to thrive. I may have to break down and go to a tanning booth later on and get my fill of UVA rays!!!

Anyway, enough complaining,,, I'm getting ready to redo my living room. Right now it's Cardamon Brown and red..I'm changing the red accent to green.. I think to brighten it up for summer is a must. If I can't decorate the outside of my house......I'm going to redecorate the inside...pics to come!! Have a great day and hope the sun is shining in your neck of the woods.

Bought a Treadmill

Well, I finally bought a treadmill. It's not the most fancy in the world and I did only pay 75.00 for it, but it's enough to get me off the couch and continue to train for my mountain climb in August. I love that it's so convenient, but not happy about it being in my bedroom. My room kinda loses it's esthetic with it in there. But, if it's going to get me motivated and keep me healthy, I can live with it in there. I am hoping at some point there will be another room to move it to, but for now I just have to live with it. I'm very happy to have it

Rain.....and more Rain

It has been a very rainy May so far in Maine. I hate it!! I am a sun lover and love all things warm!! I am not a true Mainer, therefore I think that is the reason why I hate the weather so much. I had moved around a lot in my life, and married a Mainer. So, I will be here till he decides that enough of the bad weather is enough!!
It's not that I dont' like rain. I do.. I love the sound of it on a warm summer night with the windows open and hearing it dropping from the sky is very peaceful. But, when it goes on for days, and days and doesn't get above 55 degrees, Not a fan!
So Pray that the sun comes out soon and we get a warm summer this year!! If not, I may have to vacation in a hot sunny place this summer!! Enjoy your Wednesday!!!

A night with Secret Sisters

Last night was a get together at my Church to reveal your Secret Sister. What a great night of food, fellowship and laughter. At my church we do this event 3 times a year. It's been a great way to get to know women in my church and to form friendships that will last (yes,Grace, you!) The food was fantastic as usual.. I go to a Baptist Church..go figure there was food :)....and last night a new little twist was done for us by way of the ladies ministry group. We each received a small note pad and we were to put our name, address, email and phone number in it. Then we placed them back in a basket and choose a new one. That new one will be our prayer partner till September. How great!! I get to really know another person and pray for them and their needs along with my new Secret Sister!! Fabulous!
The night went on to reveal the Secret Sister that everyone had for the past 4 months...Mine was a beautiful woman in my church who is a wonderful Mentor and woman of God, Irene. She blessed me with a wonderful gift that is now displayed in my living room on a prominent shelf! Thanks, Irene.. I really love it!

If you don't do a Secret Sister at your church I encourage you to find someone to pray for and make it part of your day to really intercede for this person through Jesus Christ.. it will make a huge difference in your life and the person your praying for!

Laundry

Last August, my 20 year old daughter moved out of the house. Her 26 year old sister was already gone.. well, I thought my laundry load would lighten... yeah, right!
I think I have more and do more now than ever before. It seems that my girls only come by to drop off their laundry and pick it back up, washed, dried and ironed...what a service these two get! I don't mind doing it as I have the time right now. They both work and my youngest goes to college as well, so it's a gift that they get their laundry done and back to them within a day.... Should I be opening up a Laundry Service in my home??? Maybe?

I often remember my mother doing my laundry when I was living with her and how great it was that it came back to me all pressed and smelling wonderful. It just seemed like it was better when she did it. I suppose that is what my two daughters would tell me too.. "But you do it better mom!"... Ah.. this is at least one way to make sure they come by and stop in for dinner, breakfast or lunch!! I love my girls.. and I have to admit.. I like doing their laundry too!

A day in the Life....

It's Monday morning and I've yet to get out of my own way and start my day. I've been at the computer for about an hour now, surfing, checking facebook, emails, and catching up on Ebay. All things that need to be done, but I also feel a little guilty for sitting and just surfing the net.
There really are things on the agenda for the day..... laundry, dishes, registering the car, crafting and re-doing some furniture. Okay,,so not feeling guilty when I actually see what I have to do today. To often I feel that when I'm home other things get in my way that stop me from be productive..(the tv, phone calls, even the internet). Trying to stay focused is a difficult thing for me to do. I love doing projects, but never seem to finish one before I start another one.
Then there is dinner to contemplate. I start thinking about that around 1pm. My husband likes to eat early, by 4;30pm so I have to eat lunch by 12:00 and then have supper at 4:30. (Is supper a Maine word???) Anyway, just trying to stay productive and get things done around the house on a Monday is in order for today.~ I love Mondays!!

Well, my husband has been craving doughtnuts..homemade ones! I have never been a great doughtnut maker, but my mother used to make them for my step-dad all the time. So I felt I should give it a try. I got out my flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and other ingredients.

Got my oil nice and hot and then cut and fried my doughnuts!!

They may not look pretty, but they sure did taste good!

A Favorite Coffe Cup

You know what I mean.. it's that one coffee cup you have in your kitchen that you love to sip your favorite cup of joe out of. I have one.. I'm sure you do to!

I've been given a lot of cup in the past. Cups from my kids; mom cups, Your the Best cups,

cups from vacations, cups from other countries, cups with sayings on them,, you know that you too have a cupboard filled with cups you can't get rid of, but that you don't use for whatever reason you have.

I was given a set of Starbucks cups a few Christmas' back and they are my FAVORITE!!! I love the shape, the handle, the color and the design on the cup.

It's not that I dont' drink out of other cups..(no colored cups though) but I have my favorite one that I'm sitting here drinking my coffee out of every morning while I blog~~ LOve the Coffee Cup!!

Okay, so it's been a while since my last post. I have my knee back in shape and am up to 1 1/4 miles on the treadmill. I'm going faster and added incline to my run. I love it!!! I never would have imagined that I would enjoy running...I'm even dreaming of running! How strange is that??
My computer has been down for a while also.. virus!!! It's back and I'm back on line now! I've got some wonderful projects in the making and plan on updated more often... Life is good and I'm in such a happy place right now ..I'm thrilled!!!

A week Later......

A week ago I was so proud to be able to have run a mile. I actually got it up to a mile and a quarter. Well, on Sunday I fell up the stairs, (yes up the stairs) wearing flip flops and landed right on my knee cap!! I can tell you that I cried for over an hour till my very patient husband said,,"We need to go get that checked out at the ER:" So, off to the ER we went. Had Xrays and an exam. Just a bad bruise with lots of pain. So I sit in a knee immobilizer with pain medication till it heals up.... and no running for a while.

I'm not sure if all my crying was due to the pain, the thought of not continuing my running or the fact I was so clumsy. Through it all, my husband was wonderful...the BEST!! I get reminded at times like this that I married a very patient, caring, loving man who handles crisis' very well. I'm blessed that nothing happened more than a bad bruise and that I have a husband who cares so much about me that I feel safe and secure.

At 49, I recently achieved something that I never thought would happen. I ran 1 mile. Yes, ran, 1 mile. This may not seem like a lot to some, but to this girl it's quite an accomplishment.

You see, even when I was younger and in boot camp, I don't think I completely ran 1 mile. There may have been those times I ran/walked a mile... and who knows how long it took me... but last Friday was the first time I completely ran 1 mile and in 13.6 minutes.

I am trying very hard to get myself into some kind of shape, (instead of the round shape I"m in)... to take control of my health and improve it each day by eating better and exercising. You may think this is for selfish reasons,, well it's really not.

My mother passed away in 2002 from complications to diabetes (type 2) and I have a sister who is heading down the same road. This is a preventable disease and could be completely reversed by diet and exercise.

With that, for my daughters and husbands sake, instead of getting a diagnosis in 5 years that I have pre-diabetes, I'm taking steps now..steps that should have been taken years ago, to get healthier..1 MILE...may not seem a lot,,,but it's the first step to a healthier ME!

A special Day..

Twenty years ago today my beautiful Hannah was born.. where has the time gone??? Not really sure. It seems like just yesterday we were having tea parties, making playdough, reading at bedtime and watching Barney.
The passing of time is a great thing. We move on and develop into who God wants us to be. But there is also a sadness that comes with that. I would never want my daughter to not grow into a Godly woman and achieve all the things He has planned. But for her mother, (me) it's a passage of time that makes me long for the little girl she use to be.

So, today, I'm happy she is growing and becoming a wonderful woman... but at the same time I mourn the time we used to spend together every day developing our relationship. But I suppose that is God's plan. To have that time when your children are young to bond and teach them and then to let go and let them develop into the person God has made.

I miss my little girl, but love the woman she has grown to become.

I have a great little consignment store in Maine near my town. It's called What to Wear. This place is like a little city boutique and just filled with great buys and usually wonderful deals.
I went there today and found all these clothes for about 28.00!!! I can just imagine how much each piece would have cost new or at a Goodwill store. I am a lucky girl who gets to shop at a fun little store and get lots of clothes for my dollar.

It these times.. this is a very good thing!

A Wonderful Birthday

what a great day! I got to indulge in all things me and am a very happy girl. I am going to make this the year of Tracey... and really get my creative juices flowing and enjoy getting my self in shape for a goal of climbing Mt. Katadin here in Maine in August.

There are a lot of first that are going to happen this year,, so I'm going to enjoy every moment of it!

A Long Time Coming

Well, I wasnt' sure I was ever going to come back and blog again. I had started another blog very, very briefly, but realized that this is where my heart is. I think I was getting frustrated about blogging and not feeling it like I should.
Now, I realize that this blogs for you. I am living each day with renewed reckless courage and trying new things all the time. I love that I've changed jobs. Creating new spaces in my home and continue to reuse, renew and repurpose discarded things.
I recently moved my bedroom. I love my bedroom, but now my walk-in closet which holds my vanity and jewlery is in the other room. So I needed to come up with an idea to house my collection of pins, which I love to wear on my coat or blazer. I had a left over piece of upholstery strapping and decided to make it into something useful for my pin collection.
I stapled a piece to the inside of my armoire door and voila!.. a pin holder for my collection. This was easy and the pins are within reach everytime I open the door. I love something that is this easy to do and takes no time at all.

SICK

I can't believe it's been since the day after Thanksgiving that I haven't felt well. I went to the doctors on Friday( three days ago) and got on some medication. It has still taken all this time to make me feel even a little better.
I have felt like some one threw me down and stepped all over me. I am completely worn out and have been able to do NOTHING!!! I was glad I put my tree up in my bedroom, or my house would have no decorations. My days have been getting up ... coughing, coughing, tea, bed, coughing, dinner, tea, tea, coughing and bed!
I finally feel a little better today so I may attempt to get some decorating done! Hope you all are well and no one else gets hit by this "bug".. bless your week!! Tracey

Where do the years go? I don't know. I sit here today on my daughter's 26th Birthday. I am in awe at what a wonderful woman she has grown into and how much she continues to surprise me with her talents.

Twenty-six years ago, I was in Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine awaiting the arrival of my firstborn. I was scared and excited at the same time. My mother was there to help me through this and very excited as this would be her first grandchild.

Raising a child is a challenging task. I am thankful for my husband who helped raise my daughter and for the loving extended family who gave Jessica a wonderful childhood and bestowed gifts(even if age inappropriate).. all her life.

Happy Birthday to my wonderful little girl who has grown up to be a fabulous, inspirational, intelligent woman. A village helped raise her.....so I am grateful to all those as well!

Bedroom Redo

If you have followed by blog for any amount of time, you know all about my daughter's HOT PINK bedroom.

Yes, it was HOT, HOT PINK!

Well, she moved out 2 months ago and I got to have the biggest room in my house back!!!

It's now MY bedroom.

Primer, Primer and Paint and the room is now a grayish/blue with brown accents and a beige accent wall for relief from all that blue.

She did int' like the closet doors so she used black curtains to cover the closet. Well, can't find the doors so I bought 2 brown table cloths and turned them into my new closet "doors".

Love the look and how it gives just more impact on that wall.

I also am in love with New Orleans... so, I tried to find pictures in a book, but instead, searched the Internet and printed off some black and whites of the great city and hung them in frames that use to house vintage handkerchiefs.

My daughters unused clarinet hangs all the wall to emphasize New Orleans Jazz.. Wreaths I made and my collection of hand mirrors on the other wall.

Happy, Happy, Happy describes how I am with the way my new bedroom turned out!

Craft Fairs and White elephant tables

I love craft fairs...not so much for buying the craft items, but for getting ideas and seeing what people have come up with for sale! It's a big business here in the Lewiston/Auburn area in Maine.. and yesterday was the cream of the crop.

I started at the Church by the Lake craft fair. Then headed off to the Gingerbread craft fair, 6th Street Congregational, Holy Trinity and Jillson's Christmas on the Farm. Whew!! A busy day , but the things I like best are the "Hidden Treasures" or White Elephant tables.

I found these goodies for under 2.00... how fantastic is that?!!!! It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!

First, let me say I can't believe this is my 198th post... only 2 more to 200. It's been a great ride that started two years ago. I love my blog friends and love reading posts that are so inspirational as well.

Next, my husband and I decided we needed a new addition to our empty nest.. we went to the Humane Society in Lewiston, Maine and picked up our new cutie...Chloe!!

She is a Shih-tzu / maltese mix and what a personality!!! I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed having her around and what a difference she has already made in our home!!

She isn't a barker, gets along with our cat and loves to play!! I can't imagine why someone got rid of her!

She has one eye, but that just makes her even cuter!! Wanted to share my joy with all of you. She has truly impacted me in such a positive way.. I love her!!

It was,, really. Dark and Windy. Very, Very Windy! I thought the house was going to leap up from the foundation and head to Kansas...

or maybe Bill Pullman and Helen Hunt would stop by......

It was that windy. Trash cans blew around and left my yard. Tree branches fell. Water pooled in the back yard, Sump Pump on and then.... Electricity OUT!!! For about 6 hours we were without electricity. I made my husbands breakfast and lunch by candlelight and then headed back to bed in hopes the lights would come back on. Around 9;15am.. Lights, camera, action!!! WE were in good shape. The cellar emptied itself with water, the fridge was on and I could make COFFEE!!! A great day otherwise. Getting more done all the time now that I'm not working as much. Have a happy Monday night!!

Busy Days at Home

Well this is my second week of not working my full part-time hours of 26 per week. I've been reduced to 13 hours per week and finding that I am more busy at home than I was at work.

I've been painting, cooking, baking, crafting, cleaning and organizing. Wow.. who knew I had so much to do??!!!

I've been making a lot of soups. Butternut Squash and broccoli soup has been my mainstay. I have a lot of squash from my garden and plan on using it up in my soup recipe. I am loving my time at home, but I have applied to a few seasonal jobs at places like Kohls, Jo-Ann fabrics and Borders. We'll have to wait and see if anything comes up.

Today I'm covered with primer... I've primed my daughters old room... (whose walls were hot pink)... I think it's about ready to be painted. I took most of the day, with filling in holes, and cutting in with a paintbrush,,,but I should be ready for the color this weekend!

A day in Salem, Massachusetts

Yesterday I had a great day in Salem, Massachusetts. I've never been so close to Halloween and it was well worth the trip. I loved the atmosphere. Everyone was dressed, there were people in costumes pretending to be statues. The Witch Museum, the food and of course my day with my friend Jenn,,,, so enjoy the pictures.

Well, Here I am sitting in my living room at 6;30 in the morning and haven't got a job to go to today. Yes, today starts my 2 day a week job! Only 13 hours a week,,,plenty of time to do other things I suppose.
I have a room to paint, outdoor furniture to put away, cakes to bake, rooms to clean, crafts to make and a volunteer program to attend at 9am. So, I guess I have plenty to keep my busy, but not going to work seems strange. You get use to a routine. Starting your day a certain way and then attack the day as it comes to you. I'm afraid, that once I get use to working only 13 hours a week, I won't want to go back to anymore.
This is a turning point in my life. I believe that God has placed this opportunity to develop what it is I truly want in my life and what I have a passion and desire to do. So I am going to embrace this time and do the things I've been putting off and really enjoy a time in my life that I can totally grab hold of!

30 years later....

This weekend is my 30th Class Reunion~ Can't believe it's been 30 years since I graduated and was 18 years old. Where has the time gone?? Not sure. I am looking forward to it though. People I haven't seen in years and the music of the '80's.. gotta love it! So, of course I had to have my hair done and get rid of that gray.... a little blonder, please....

and so I'm ready to head out Saturday night, a blonder version of me, in a little black dress and red heels.. I think it will be perfect and comfortable. Not out to impress anyone,, I mean come on, we're all just about 50 and not the young teenagers we were back in the day. A little older, and a little wiser.

On another note, my hours were cut back at my job yesterday... that meant I went from 26 to 13.. so I'm going to take this opportunity to do some things in my home that I've been putting off and see just how much I can do on very little money!

It's a challeng I'm up for... I'll keep you posted on how well I can do! Have a wonderful day all and enjoy this 20th day of October!

A perfect ending to a unsettled week!

Yesterday was a lot better than the rest of the week held for me. I went shopping with my youngest daughter, and we had a great time. We went to Old Navy, Target and then lunch and then to the grocery store. It was fun to be with her. Since she moved out about a month ago, I've missed spending time with her a lot! One thing that has happened since she has left, we actually get along much better. We can spend our time talking about what is going on in her life, I let her lead and just listen (this is very hard for me)... but it's working!

We went back to the apartment she shares with my oldest daughter and I helped her put things away and clean up a bit. It's good to see her on her own, but I still miss the daylights out of her!

So, I came back home and my husband and I went to see the movie "Secretariat"...great movie.

I remember when he raced back in 1973, but the see the background story and see the race again, was wonderful! The story is so feel good, and about following a dream and never quitting. Made me realize that anything is possible. By the time we left the theater, both of us were teary-eyed. I have to say a great ending to a rather troubling week. Thank you God for reviving me and lifting my spirits! thanks for all the prayers too!! Love to all!!

A Challenging Week

After a wonderful weekend, this week has had it's trials. I am feeling extremely tired and out of sorts. Not sure what the reason is, but it has been a long and very uneventful week for me.
I'm not sure if the weekend just took a lot out of me or not? I have come home from work each night and just about dropped on the couch and fell asleep.
Changing seasons? Overtired? Not feeling well?? There seem to be actual reasons, but nothing I can really put my finger on.
I have put my zumba classes on hold, my Bible study on hold and have just wanted to nest in my house. Does anyone else go through periods like this??? I have another busy weekend coming up, and hopefully it won't suck the life out of me again..... am I getting old?? (yikes!!!)... I don't' think so,, just overextending myself and I need to pace things in my life and especially on the weekends.

Last Fair of the Season

Friday was a beautiful fall day here in Maine. Perfect to attend the biggest and final fair of the season.

My husband and I left Friday morning around 8am and got to the fair around 10:00. We grabbed something to eat right away.. decisions, decisions.. anything fried you can think of, Thai food, Italian sausage, pizza, ice cream, bar-b-que, hamburg, turkey legs and the list goes on and on... we decided on french fries with cheese on top! Yummy!!! then a Pumpkin cheesecake Ice cream!

We went into the horse pulling ring,, yes, horses pull over 5000 pounds of weight and are given a five minute time limit to see how far they can pull.... it's great to see these great big work horses doing what they are bred to do..work.

Headed over to the race way later.. yes I bet and won! Harness racing is the type of racing in Maine!! It's fun and exciting.

We walked around for a long time looking at crafts, animals and exhibitions of Grange Halls in the state! It's a wonderful place to be and to just enjoy the farming and more low key way of life that is offered in Maine farming communities.

After a very long day.. home around 10:00am.... we headed home with a deep fried Twinkies in hand.... delicious!!

Do you ever wonder if there is such a thing as being too happy??? I know I do! I have been in a cycle of utter happiness lately. I wonder why that is? Nothing much has changed. In fact my daughter moved out, my oldest daughter broke up a 7 year relationship and I had a melt down a week ago, but still I AM HAPPY!!
A few years back, my life was very different. I was alone, and in a very unhappy relationship, but now.. things are so different I actually can't wait to see what each new day brings for me to enjoy.
I believe the difference is that I am trying to live a better life. Trying to do things the right way. Obey God and knowing that He is close to me and taking care of me and keeping Jesus a priority in my life and marriage.
I believe my treating others the way I'd want to be treated is key. I was making wrong choices and following the crowd and not my heart.. makes a big difference.
I am heading off to the fair tomorrow with my husband for the day.. I'll bring my camera to show off the a real Maine fair and let you know how the day goes.
Thank you all for being here and for being a part of my life in this world of "blog"... I am happy to have such wonderful, creative, inspiring women in my life!!

Older and Wiser

Does this ring a bell?..when you were young you went along with other people and their wacky ideas.. you were to afraid to challenge them and go your own way. Afraid of what others thought if you decided to listen to your own drummer.
Well, I had an experience this past weekend that really made me happy I am an adult and a wiser one at that!
My girlfriends and I went to Sunday River ( a ski resort in Bethel, Maine) on Friday.... (we do a Zumba performance for a health fair every year)....Our plans were to do the performance and then go to one of the girls camps about an hour away.
So when we were finished, we gathered in our cars (I had my own,, lucky me) and took off to follow the leader. Before I knew it we were on an unfamiliar dirt road stopping by a camp I had never seen. Apparently the plan had changed without my knowledge. Now, I have anxiety/panic issues and if you know that.. you can see what is coming.
I had a full blown attack, sat in my car and with everyone knowing what was going on, the plans to move along didn't happen... I was short of breath, crying and upset. Not one of my friends said, "Lets leave and go about our plans as before".... I was devastated! In the past I would have continued to stay and be upset, but after calling my wonderful sister( Kathleen)... I decided, I have a car and I can leave!! That's what I did. Put that puppy in reverse and came back home!!
Was I too sensitive??? Too blind by panic to be reasonable..I don't think so.
But it's funny to me that in the past, I wouldn't have left. I would have been miserable and let others dictate to me how and what to do.. I'm glad I'm an adult and that I have come a long way to be a wiser and yes, older woman!!

Maine has been Frosted!

Yeah.. it's true. This morning there is frost on the pumpkins, literally! I looked out my window and saw the frost covering my pumpkins. So, after trying to wake up a bit, I started a fire in the wood stove to warm things up a bit. I'm sure the temp will rise by noon, but there is something cozy and snug about getting the wood stove going.

My husband is away right now with the National Guard, so I'm home alone getting some things done and getting my home ready for Halloween. I love Halloween!! The vintage decorations, pumpkins and knowing that the heart of autumn is near.
I enjoy looking for decorations for Halloween, but I have to say I'm a little particular. I love the vintage, paper mache looking figures.... and the rest has to be not chintzy. When my kids were little, I loved all the fun, out there items, but now, since it's my home... I can do what I want and what I love. I've searched ebay, Christmas Tree Shops, and TJ Maxx for some fun items that remind me of 1950-60's Halloween items. Not too much luck, but enough to get myself going.

When I was at TJ Maxx, I saw a picture that was great, but thought,"I can make that",, so I came home, got a frame, a little vintage trick or treat bag, some pipe cleaners and some old letters for background and came up with the exact same thing...much less expensive too!

I also made a witches hat, (a blog last year made this and it was awesome) it's a fun piece to just prop up in my living room. So here are some pictures and some fun things to do for Halloween.

Redefining my life

Well, I suppose many of you saw this coming. I've been away for a while trying to really figure out where and what I want out of my blog. I think, in the past, I was writing for everyone but me. I've decided that it's time for me to write for me, and if that means losing followers, or not being interesting enough.. that's okay.
I have a lot of interest and I'm a very busy woman. My life is taking a new direction as my last child has left home to live on her own and it's just my husband and I now. Very different...believe me!
So, with camera in hand, (not always, I'm not good about bringing it with me).. I'm going to really post things I love, things that interest me and things that I create here in my home for my own selfish pleasure.
Do I get ideas from other blogs, you bet!! There are so many creative people out there, how can you not borrow these ideas and change them a bit to make them your own.
I've hesitated posting items like this, as I didn't want to be know as an "idea stealer"..lol!!! But I know now that's what the idea's out there in blog world are for... sharing and using the fun, creative, and ingenious ideas that is "Blog World"... so, as for me.... I'm heading to a new path (again) and this time the blog will be about what really interests me and what I love... hope you will stick around~!

WICKED

Though it might have nothing to do with saving money(believe me).. I had to post about my trip to Boston with my daughter yesterday.

We took the train to Boston and had a great time. When we got into the TD Garden it was wonderful. We walked over to Fanueil Hall and had a bite to eat before the show. We sat and enjoyed lunch and then walked over to the Boston Opera House for the 1:00pm Matinee. The theater was opulent! There was tons of stuff to buy, but decided to by pass this and head to our seats with a bottled water. Jessica did buy a Program with beautiful pictures in it and it was 20.00.

The show began. Now, I knew nothing about Wicked,,,not the music or the story. It was wonderful. The costumes were great. The music was powerful and the story... poignant. I loved it and the smile on my daughter's face said it all!!

After the play was finished we went back to Fanueil Hall, had a dessert, cannoli, and walked back to the train. Picked it up and had a drink on the train ride home. Back in Portland at 8;15pm... a fantastic finish to a perfect day!!!

I'll never drive to Boston again...the train ride made it easy and relaxing. Thanks Jess for a great day and for being a super, wonderful, fantastic daughter!!!

Updating on Projects

I've been very busy lately. I had my yard sale and was able to make some money.. which is a good thing. I bought my train tickets to Boston with that money...seeing WICKED on Thursday...can't wait!!!!

The garden is getting the better of me.

Tomatoes are coming in faster than I can pick.

Grapes are ready to be made into jelly.

My kitchen cabinets and the doors are being stripped and stained a great cherry red..(half done right now). I also had an old shutter and decided to turn it into a magazine rack.. love how it looks in my living room.

I also received some beautiful roses from my best friend and her daughter on Friday. The daughter is having a baby next month and I get to be grammie too!!!

And my first Freebie came in... a JIFFY cookbook!! Love this. Easy recipes and it was FREE!!!!

So a litttle updating on what has been happening and to let you know I'm enjoying my new found thriftier ways and looking to save money anyway I can by also reducing my carbon footprint!

Since deciding to change my ways and really begin to save and watch my money more closely, I came across this website and I love it!! I get emails each morning to dircet me to the Freebies of the day!! http://www.shop4freebies.com/. It's fun and you get samples, coupons and newsletters for free! I love stopping by each morning to see if there is anything I can use and just "grab it". I find it's always great to get some items for free.

I also thought I'd never have another yard sale as long as I lived. I was wrong!

My daughter is moving from a 7 room house to a 3 room apartment and can't take all her furniture with her. So,(since most of it was my furniture) I've decided to have another yard sale and sell it to get some money!! If there is money to be made.. I'm there!!! So, it's pricing, tagging and making signs for the yard sale to be held next weekend! Save, Save, Save,, have a great Day!

A shift in the wind

Well, as you can see, I am changing the look of my blog. Not sure it's going to stay this way, but after an hour of playing, I'm still not happy with the design. I plan on taking my blog in a new direction. I have really been trying to pare my life back.

As you all know, I love shoes!! Yes, I LOVE shoes!! but I realize that I live in a very small house and the space I do have is precious to me. So I've cleaned out my closet and took about 50 pairs of shoes and am ready to rid myself of them!! Yes, I'm really getting rid of 50 pairs of shoes. That brings me to about 30 and I plan on weaning myself even more!

Also, are you paying too much for some utilities. I am. My cable / internet bill is high considering what I have. So I decided to call the company and ask for a reduced rate. Believe it or not, they accomodated me!! Dropped my bill 15.00 per month for a year. That's a savings of 180.00 per year! Wow!! I plan on trying to take more pictures. I think I hesitate to do that because not everything is perfect. But I'm going to try to let you know how we save and how I plan on reducing my bills, and increase our savings!!! Hope you like this new direction... I think I'll be a better blogger because of it!! Enjoy your weekend all!!

I can't believe August is already here. It's been warm here in Maine most of the summer and things are growing in the garden like crazy. I already made 8 pints of Strawberry Jam, 9 pints of Raspberry jam, froze beans and spinach and now gotta do something with all this squash that's coming in!! I feel like there aren't enough hours in the day to finish everything that is going on. I have a craft room full of stuff, kitchen cabinets that need to be stained and the rest stripped. Floors that need washing and cleaning.... how do you get everything done in one day!?

I've also been struggling with my weight which is making me crazy!! I zumba, swim, kayak, hike and still am gaining weight. I'm seeing a dietician in September to help me. There is nothing wrong with me as far as I know.. all the test came back normal.. just can't rid myself of this FAT!!

This is also the first year I'm not sending anyone off to school. It;'s a little depressing. My daughter Hannah has decided not to return to college right now and she is in a "lost" zone. I hope she finds her way out.

So, as you can see, I've missed blogging, but have had a lot on my plate right now.. I'll be back with a vengance soon!!! Have a wonderful day!

Neglected

I know that I've been neglecting everyone lately.. My apologies!! I've been so busy and it's been so hot that I don't have the time to sit like I should and visit the blogs I love and the people I love as well!! I am ashamed! :(.... But,,,, I'm not going to say I'm going to post everyday or anything like that..when I can find the time and sit like I should and it cools off a little here in Maine.. I'll be back in full force!! It's tough and I give all of you so much credit who find the time to sit and post on a daily basis and keep in touch with your readers.

I will return..again on a semi-daily basis ..not sure when...keep you posted!!!

What a vacation!!

Back from vacation and getting ready to head to work.. we had such a fabulous time.. Kayaking, tennis, going to plays, Botanical Gardens, boat cruise, eating out, shopping and hiking...not necessarily in that order.. but what a time we had.

I spent the week with my sister and her husband at the cottage we rented last year in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. The weather was great and the company better!!! My daughters came up for a day and we played mini-golf and ate out and shopped! The cottage on the ocean was wonderful again this year and we plan on doing it again next.
